Pain Management
Whether you are suffering from chronic pain, intermittent pain or are preparing for a procedure that may involve discomfort or pain, hypnotherapy can be helpful in aiding you to manage that pain.
What is hypnotherapy for pain management?

Hypnosis is a well-researched complementary therapy. It has been used in the management of pain for a very long time. It’s not about telling you that you can’t feel your pain. It’s about creating the best set of circumstances for you to relax, for you to switch of the ‘alarm’ function of pain. Hypnosis uses a technique called progressive muscle relaxation, and this technique redirects your mind’s attention away from the ‘alarm’.
How does hypnotherapy for pain management work?

In the initial consultation you will be able to let me know the specific nature of your challenges with pain. I will give you a detailed explanation of how the brain works with pain and how we will work together to help you manage it.
Hypnotherapy sessions consist of learning new self-hypnosis techniques to help you manage pain and working on what is helpful for you. We will also use hypnosis, which is a state of deep relaxation and helps the brain to focus on pleasant images and experiences.
Who is pain management hypnotherapy for?

I have worked with people who have chronic pain, intermittent pain and people who have been preparing for medical procedures.

What do you need to do?

You won’t need to talk about any unpleasant experiences of memories. We will focus on helping you learn and experience techniques that are helpful to you. Hypnotherapy is a complementary therapy. This means that it can be used alongside any other treatments/medications you may already be using or want to use while seeing me.

Please contact your GP if you are experiencing any new or different pain that you have not already consulted them about.
