IBS- Gut Directed Hypnotherapy

Do you suffer from IBS?  Gut directed hypnotherapy studies have shown that gut-directed hypnotherapy improves gastrointestinal symptoms in people with IBS by 70-80% and these improvements are maintained in the long-term. Hypnotherapy is recognised by NICE as a useful therapy for helping to manage this condition: I use a mixture of Gut Directed Hypnotherapy and Solution Focused Hypnotherapy to help with IBS.

What is Gut Directed Hypnotherapy for IBS?

IBS (irritable bowel syndrome) is a condition that can cause bloating, diarrhoea and/or constipation. It can be a long-term debilitating condition. However, a treatment called Gut Directed Hypnotherapy (GDH) has been found to be very effective in helping people suffering from this problem.  Gut Directed Hypnotherapy recognises there is a link between the gut and the brain called the gut/brain axis.

How does Gut Directed Hypnotherapy work?

Our first meeting is an initial consultation where we can discuss in depth how you are suffering from IBS and what we can do about it. We look at the gut and the brain and how they work together and are affected by stress. I will also give you a recording to listen to and a relaxation technique to practise.

Subsequent sessions are a mixture of talking therapy, where we discuss your progress and use visualisation and hypnosis. Research has shown this treatment to be effective for up to 70- 80% of people showing long term improvements.

Who is Gut Directed hypnotherapy for?

Gut Directed Hypnotherapy is for anyone who has IBS. I have helped many clients with IBS-C and IBS-D as well as those that have a mixture of these symptoms.

What do you need to do?

You won’t need to discuss any specific symptoms or events that you don’t want to. You just need to attend the sessions and do any other small things to help you between sessions that we agree on together, such as listening to a recording regularly. Hypnotherapy is a complementary therapy. This means that it can be used alongside any other treatments/medications you may already be using or want to use while seeing me. Most people will need 6-8 sessions sessions after an initial consultation.

(If you have experienced any change in bowel habits you should consult your GP to let them know and enable them to investigate any other possible causes.)

I deliver gut directed hypnotherapy at my clinics in Harley Street, London; Whitstable, Faversham  and Herne Bay in Kent or online using secure video link. I also work with organisations at their offices. Contact me to find out more.   Online hypnotherapy allows you to receive therapy from the comfort of your own home or other suitable location where you are secure and comfortable. Research suggests that online gut directed hypnotherapy is as effective as face-to-face hypnotherapy

To help you make up your mind, I offer a free 15 minute hypnotherapy consultation and access to a relaxation recording.  Book your free consultation here.
